the western world

bbc international headlines this morning: gerard ford (US president 30 years ago and aged 93) dies. this is the biggest news of the day. 300 people die in Nigeria - a small title lost somewhere between the page's links. i fail to understand why mr. ford's death is affecting more people's lives around the world and is more important to know about. it's not about the importance of human life, since there isn't like like a measure of comparison. it's just that i am sick of this twisted logic of reporting that is well widespread in all media nowadays. the thirld world will remain third world as long as we keep treating it like it is the third world at all levels, from trade to news reporting.
